Schools Asymptomatic Testing Programme Survey

Surveys for Secondary School Pupils and Parents/Guardians of Secondary Pupils

The Scottish Government would like your help to improve the schools asymptomatic testing programme.

What is the Schools Asymptomatic Testing Programme?

Some people may have COVID-19 but not have any symptoms. The testing programme aims to help secondary school pupils and staff in schools and childcare settings to find out if they have the virus, so that they and their close contacts can self-isolate. This should help reduce the extent to which the COVID-19 is likely to be passed on in school/childcare communities, reducing the likelihood of outbreaks.

Why are we being asked to complete a survey?

The Scottish Government would like to learn how to improve the testing experience for school communities. In order to do this, we are asking secondary school pupils and the parents/guardians of secondary pupils a few questions about their experience of and views on the testing programme. The surveys should take about 5-10 minutes to complete. Pupils aged 15 and under will be prompted to discuss their participation in the survey with a parent or guardian.

Please watch this short video from Professor Jason Leitch encouraging people to participate: https://youtu.be/nMletsFhOBU.

Do we have to fill out the surveys?

Your participation in the surveys is voluntary. You may choose not to participate. If you do decide to participate, you may withdraw at any time. All replies are anonymous. We will only use the information you provide to help improve the testing programme and the support we give to those involved. Thank you for your help.

Is anyone else being asked to do a survey?

Yes, we will be asking school staff and others involved in managing the testing programme for their views too.

Here are the links to the surveys:

If you have any questions about these surveys, please feel free to get in touch with clare.magill@gov.scot.

Return to Full-Time Education in Strathaven Academy (Update 31-03-2021)

I am pleased to attach our updated return to school guide for after the Easter holiday.  It contains important information for families and we hope that this provides some reassurance ahead of the much needed break. The key changes relate to face coverings and lateral flow device (LFD) testing.

We are aware that some young people continue to feel anxious and it is important for all members of our school community to find time to relax, catch up with family and friends, and focus on their wellbeing.  The past year has been an extremely challenging time for us all and I hope that we have happier times to look forward to in the near future.

Mr Fleming will issue important information in relation to SQA and our planned Senior Phase Assessment Programme for the summer term.  This includes details of an online SQA Information Evening for parents/carers on Wednesday, 21 April.  He will also share our revised timings for reporting given the changes introduced by SQA and the need for both remote and blended learning this year.

Our young people have been magnificent over the last 12 months and we will continue do everything we can to support each and every one of them moving forward.  My thanks goes to all of our incredible staff, to parents/carers, partners and friends of Strathaven Academy for your ongoing support.  I hope you all have a lovely Easter break.

Take care and stay safe.

Information Update: 16 February 2021

The First Minister confirmed this afternoon that some learners in the Senior Phase (S4/5/6) can return to the school building from Monday 22 February to undertake learning which cannot be facilitated remotely.  We will share more detailed information later this week on the return of Senior Phase pupils for practical subjects.  Teachers will post information in Google Classrooms to ensure pupils know which session/s they should attend in school.

In addition, we will share information on rapid Covid-19 testing for Senior Phase pupils who are returning to the school building.  Key information will be shared in year group Google Classrooms and via our online platforms.  Pupils should only return to the school building from W/C 22 February when they have been instructed to do so.

Please continue to look out for important updates this week.

Partnership Action for Continuing Employment

Strathaven Academy works closely with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to support our young people move into employment, training, apprenticeships and Further/Higher Education. In the current economic climate, many of our families also face unstable employment opportunities, and this includes being made redundant. SDS has compiled the information below that might be useful to anyone facing economic uncertainty at this time.

Face Coverings Update 30-10-2020

Following on from the announcement this afternoon, all staff and pupils should wear a face covering in classrooms during lessons in the senior phase (S4, S5 and S6 pupils) from Monday 2nd November.

Covid-19 Update 23-10-2020

A huge thank you to pupils, parents/carers and staff for your continued support in implementing measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19 in school and across our community.

Our young people have been fantastic in school and have taken personal responsibility for control measures such as wearing face coverings and using hand sanitiser.  We recognise there is always more that can be done and will continue to remind young people of their responsibilities within and out with school.

Test and Protect process

Please find a link to a presentation on the current Test and Protect process that has been to delivered to all pupils during PSE this week.  Young people asked that we share this information with them so they understand why decisions are made by Public Health concerning confirmed Covid-19 cases.  We hope that this information helps to inform all members of our school community and prevent the spread of the virus.  Some points from the presentation are highlighted below, however we encourage all parents/carers to read the full presentation.

Test and Protect process presentation (pupil)

Test

If a pupil or anyone they live with develop symptoms it is important that they self-isolate at home straight away until the test results are received.

Parents/carers must phone the school to tell office staff that a pupil or someone in your household is being tested.

Following a negative test result, parents/carers must let the school know that the test was negative before pupils return to school.

Following a positive test result, parents/carers must contact the school as soon as possible and talk to a member of office staff.

Trace

Everyone who tests positive for coronavirus will be put in touch with a NHS contact tracer to help identify who they’ve been in close contact with.

Isolate

Self-isolation means you should remain at home and should not go to work, school, public areas or use public transport.  You should not go out to buy food or other essentials. You must stay at home.

Support

If a pupil has been told to isolate, and is feeling well enough, they should be doing school work at home.

Miss McGinlay or Mrs Wellcoat will keep in contact with pupils and parents/carers via email or phone during the period of isolation.

Parents/carers should not contact the school to ask for pupil work to be organised.  Pupils can contact their class teachers via Google Classroom/email.

Take care and stay safe.
