At Strathaven Academy, we have a long history with photography. Over the years, the Art and Design department has given pupils the opportunity to explore the subject, from utilising the dark room in the old school building to embracing and pioneering approaches to the digital medium. We have also celebrated many successful pupils pursuing further education and life-long careers.
We offer many courses in digital photography including S3 Elective, NPA Photography and Higher Photography. We also continue to encourage pupils to engage with extra curriculum opportunities.
Our latest project is in association with the Strathaven group ‘CARS’. The Strathaven Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme has the objective of bringing improvements to Strathaven town centre and retaining the heritage aspects of its buildings. We are pleased to announce our Strathaven ‘CARS’ Heritage Photography Competition.
£250 first prize, £150 second prize and £100 third prize.
The overall theme for this competition is Strathaven Heritage. Photographs can feature aspects of life in Strathaven, from the footprint former generations have left behind to what we will create for future residents. Shots can showcase people and/or places featuring Strathaven’s unique built and natural environment.
Get your digital pics (one per pupil) to the Art and Design department by Thursday the 9th of June.
A Google Classroom is available where all year groups can access more information, discuss the project and submit entries. Ask your Art and Design teacher to share the Google Classroom code if you haven’t received it yet.
Thanks and good luck!
