Square Exhibition

Strathaven Academy Art and Design department are proud to announce that our ‘Square’ exhibition opens to the public on Friday 6 June and runs until the end of June.

Featuring 32 artworks from S1 – S3, the pupils were tasked by Mr Wellcoat to create an image in the format of a square. The subject matter and medium was the choice of the pupils themselves and therefore showcases a wide range of ideas and approaches. The square itself challenges compositional choices with symmetry or asymmetry, balance or imbalance, and acts like a window frame.

A range of mediums; such as acrylic and watercolour paint, paper collage, chalk, pen, coloured pencil, photography, and digital art are showcased, bringing the student’s ideas to life.

Collaborating with No. 40 Common Green, the artworks are on show as a window display, side by side in a square grid.  This provides a further aesthetic to the overall installation.

Congratulations to all of the pupils involved – you are superstars!

Many thanks to No. 40 for their continued support and enthusiasm in this first-time collaboration.

Preview evening from 6pm Thursday 5 June. (Photos to follow)
