Young People’s Mental Health Week

This week (1st – 7th February) is Young People’s Mental Health Week 2021. The theme this year is ‘Express Yourself’. Now more than ever, it is vital that we take steps to protect our own mental health as well as the people we care about. As a school we will run a number of events throughout this week to draw attention to this topic.
A presentation has been posted in each year groups’ google classroom, explaining what the week is about and how pupils can get involved. The Art & Design department are running a photo and poster competition based around the theme of the week and PE will focus on self-expression through movement in this week’s classes.
Daily google meet drop-in sessions will take place for each year group. Again, this information has been posted in each year groups’ google classroom.
On Wednesday 3rd February 2021 we are encouraging everyone to walk a mile with a member of your household. Enjoy the time to switch off from devices and get some fresh air.
Thursday 4th Feb 2021 is ‘Time to Talk’ Day as organised by SeeMe
(click link below for more information).
We will also host an online quiz on Friday 5th Feb for all pupils.
We all know that talking to someone about how we are feeling promotes better mental wellbeing. However, it’s something that many people struggle with. Therefore, we are asking our school community to prioritise talking about their feelings this Thursday. Why not sit down as a family and discuss how lockdown is impacting you, or phone a friend and get things off your chest?
Strathaven Academy is still here to support all our young people, even if it is remotely. Please reach out if you are struggling.
The link below also takes you to external support organisations.
