Reading Week 2 – 6 September

(Update – see more recent post for COSPLAY photos)

September marks the first IDL of the year – Reading Week. The week will kick off with S1 and S2 Assemblies on Monday morning with the launch of this year’s Reading Challenge and prizes distributed for the Front Cover competition run by the Art and Design department, the Summer Selfie competition and to those who met the Reading Challenge last year. Pupils in S1 to S3 have reading registration every day next week and it looks like there will lots of activities in class for all year groups throughout the week with Faculties organising subject specific reading tasks.

Outside of class there are a small number of extra-curricular activities – a spelling bee, book themed Drama Club, riddles in the street and a themed menu. Reading period is on on Thursday P6 and we encourage all staff and pupils to DEAR (drop everything and read) for the period. This will be personal reading or subject related reading (especially for senior pupils).

Reading Week culminates in COS play day on Friday 6 September where staff and pupils are encouraged to donate a book or pay a £1 in order to dress as a book, TV or film character or to wear a favourite band t-shirt. Prizes and house points to be won!
