‘Our Generation Strathaven’ Exhibition

As we reported at the start of the year, the Art and Design department have been working hard to prepare work for the ‘Our Generation Strathaven’ exhibition. The week long event kicks off on Saturday 14 March at ‘The Hub’ situated at 23 Townhead Street in Strathaven and many community groups are also contributing to this initiative. Art and Design pupils have enjoyed this project with all of S1 and the S5/6 NPA photography class producing artworks and photographs.

Former pupil, Mhairi Anderson from ‘Creative Strathaven’ has been visiting the department over the last few weeks to collaborate with pupils and assist them in their response to the exhibition brief. Pupils have created many artworks to be displayed including lots of printmaking and photography. The aim is to celebrate our town’s history and heritage using the arts to document the Strathaven of today through the eyes of multiple generations. History for the future whilst reflecting on our past. (See photos below of this amazing community project)

The project is initiated and funded by ‘Strathaven CARS’ (Conservation Area and Regeneration Scheme) promoting conservation and heritage as part of its education and training responsibility. Strathaven Academy Art and Design department have also been working in conjunction with ‘Creative Strathaven’.
