As part of World Space Week, some of our S1 pupils took part in a national competition to design a UK spaceport.

After some introductory videos, the teams chose their preferred launch method which would form the basis of their spaceport design.

In designing the spaceport, the teams had to make important decisions on how they balanced cost, performance and the environmental impact of the structures they wanted to include.

The teams also had to deal with the realities of large scale design projects with the discovery of unforeseen factors such as uneven terrain, failed rocket tests and previously undiscovered areas of archaeological significance. This forced the teams to rethink things and make design modifications.

The fantastic effort from our teams resulted in five completed designs and good fun was had by all.
